New tenancy agreements in Scotland from 1st December

From 1st December, all new tenancies issued will be ‘Private Residential Tenancies’ (PRT). There are new statutory obligations that must be included in new leases issued on or after this date. This includes new rules regarding ending a tenancy and new grounds for eviction.

At SME Professional, we want to make managing properties as easy as possible. The Scottish Government has released a suggested ‘model tenancy’ agreement and we are working with our solicitors to create a new, updated tenancy agreement that contains the mandatory obligations, but is still the best document for landlords and agents.

Our software will be updated to issue the new tenancy agreements as standard from 1 December. Current tenancy agreements will still be on the existing tenancy regime until a new tenancy has been generated.

We are also currently working on lots of new functionality to help you comply with the new Code of Practice, which comes into effect on 31 January.

What do I need to do if I am an SME Professional Customer?

Nothing! As with all our software, the changes will be entirely automated, so you don’t have to worry.
